Real slots, confirmed on booking

The times you see are the doctor’s own open diary. Pick one and it is yours — with a reminder before the visit.

Today, this week, or by video

Each doctor’s card shows when they next consult — or choose a video consultation when getting to a practice is the hard part.

One record after every visit

Notes, prescriptions, sick notes and referrals land in your NuHealth record, each one verifiable.

How to book a doctor on NuHealth

Search the clinician directory by name, speciality or town. Each profile shows the doctor’s HPCSA registration, where they practise, the languages they speak, their fee, and whether they consult by video.

Choose in person or video, pick an open time, and pay the fee shown on the profile. Your booking is confirmed straight away and appears in your appointments with a reminder.

After the visit, anything the doctor issues — a prescription, a sick note, a referral — is added to your record and carries a code anyone can check at nuhealth.co.za/verify.

Booking a doctor for today

Each doctor’s card in the directory shows when they next consult — “Consulting today” or the next day they have open times. If nobody near you is free today, a video consultation is often the quickest way to be seen.

If it is an emergency — chest pain, difficulty breathing, signs of a stroke, severe bleeding — do not book: call 10177 for an ambulance (112 from a cell phone) or go to your nearest emergency unit.

What it costs

Every doctor sets their own consultation fee, shown on their profile before you book. You pay per visit; you do not need a subscription to book.

If your medical scheme reimburses consultations, keep the receipt from your records to claim it.

Questions

What people ask

Can I book a doctor for today?

Often, yes. Each doctor’s card shows when they next consult, so you can see who is free today; a video consultation is usually the quickest option when nobody nearby has a free slot.

Do I need medical aid to book a doctor?

No. You pay the doctor’s fee when you book. If your scheme reimburses consultations, claim with the receipt kept in your records.

Should I choose a video or an in-person appointment?

Video suits many everyday problems — infections, rashes, repeat medicine, sick notes, follow-ups. Choose in person when you need an examination, a test or a procedure; the doctor will tell you if a video visit is not enough.
